Montenegro is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Even though it only covers an area of 14.000 km2, its contribution to the world cultural heritage is impressive. During centuries of its rich history Montenegro has survived and remained one of the brightest models for the fight for freedom, for its own existence, and a place of which people always spoke with respect. Christian, Muslim, Illyrian, Byzantine, Turkish, and Slav civilizations merged here making Montenegro forever a crossroad of culture and history.

Montenegro has borders to Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Croatia.

Tourism

The coastal region is of main interest to tourists. The Montenegrin Adriatic coast is 295 km long, with 72 km of beaches, and with many well-preserved ancient old towns. Examples of attractions are:
  • Old town of Kotor, listed with UNESCO world heritage sites.
  • Boka Kotorska (Bay of Kotor), some say most beautiful bay in Europe, with ancient small town of Perast and its islets.
  • Old town of Budva, a well preserved old town.
  • Sveti Stefan, a small hamlet on an island turned into a luxury hotel.
Besides these, every other coastal town, is very popular among tourists, primarily because of sandy beaches and vibrant nightlife.

Transport

By air

Montenegro has two airports, Podgorica Airport and Tivat Airport. The Dubrovnik Airport, Cilipi, is half hour drive from the Montenegro border, and coastal city of Herceg-Novi, and is served by many major airlines, so it might be a good option for tourist coming by plane.

By train

There is regular passenger train service from Subotica through Novi Sad and Belgrade. Train goes through Bijelo Polje, Kolasin, Podgorica and ends in Bar, Montenegro's main seaport.

Kotor - curvy mountanious roads

By car

European routes E65, E80, E762, E763 and E851 pass through the country. Coming in from Serbia during the winter requires additional caution, as curvy mountanious road is not in good condition.

Hiring a car to drive in to Montenegro from one of the surrounding countries can be problematic. Not all car hire companies will permit the journey. You will need a border pass.




By sea

Bar Bari - Ferry Sveti StefanThere are regular ferry lines from Bar to Bari and Ancona in Italy. Lines operate almost daily throughout the year, and get more frequent during the summer. The trip to Bari takes around 16 hours.

This manifestation was creates in the past several years, so that it could depict to tourists the pleasures of street parties and so that it can describe them the spirit of Kotor and the cheerfulness which exist in that town for centuries.

Boka night - Kotor One of the most famous tourist manifestations in Kotor recognizable by the defile of boats, which decorated take part in the competition. Boats cruise along the Kotor harbor, decorated with lights. On Kotor squares for hours lasts fun with song, dance and cheerful atmosphere. At he end of the night the best decorated barge is chosen, and Boka night ends with a festive fireworks.

In the organization of Culturally - Informative center Budo Tomovic and theater enthusiasts FIAT will give you the pleasure to enjoy in Becket, Shakespeare, and others in a completely different way.

Lastva festivities - Lastovo, Tivat
Lastva festivities - Lastovo, Tivat This is a manifestation which is traditionally held in August in the place Gornja Lastva (Upper Lastva), close to Tivat. The organizers of Lastva festivities are culturally tourist and hometown association Napredak (Progress) and Tivat's center for culture. On the first Saturday of August the main fiesta of Lastva festivities is being held. The fiesta is made of: artistic programs, dance circle of Boka Navy accompanied with Music educational association Tivat. Numerous domestic and foreign guests,, and citizens of Tivat who visit this manifestation, enjoy in listening of original Lastva songs, as well as in the traditional dances better kown as Lastva and Skaljar folk round dance. The dinners in the mill dedicated to clapper music songs, traditional way of singing that is present in Boka Kotorska is one of the most beautiful moments of the fiesta.
